What To Expect
The Process of Sleep Testing
Whether you are referred by your physician or coming in on your own, we are here to guide you through every step of the process.
Step 1: Referral or Self-Referral
You may be referred by your physician or you may self-refer directly to our office. If your physician refers you, you will likely be scheduled for a polysomnogram (PSG) and a consultation. If you are self-referring, you will be scheduled for a consultation with our sleep-certified physician and then directed to the appropriate testing.
Step 2: Sleep Testing Options
Polysomnogram (PSG)
A PSG is a comprehensive diagnostic study that records your brainwaves, heart function, limb movements, airflow, respirations, and oxygen levels to evaluate for sleep apnea.
What to expect during your PSG:
-
Arrive at your scheduled time and eat dinner beforehand
-
Take any medications as normal (if you take a sleeping aid, bring it with you)
-
Dress in comfortable clothing — no silk or satin
-
Leads will be attached to record your brainwaves, heart function, limb movements, airflow, respirations, and oxygen levels
-
You will be released between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM the following morning
-
If you are a patient of our clinic, you will be contacted once your results are ready. If you were referred by an outside physician, results will be faxed to your doctor.
Our team is here to support you and your family every step of the way.
